new camera

I'm about to leave for the southern hemisphere, but before I do, I thought I'd tell you about my new camera. I finally got around to getting one. I got a Canon PowerShot G7. I bought a Canon because my film camera is a Canon and I think it earned them some brand loyalty. Plus, I like their image stabilization feature (I have shaky hands!). I like how it looks like an old kinda crappy camera from the front. It's hardly small by digital camera standards, but it fits in my pocket just fine, much more easily than the film camera does, and that's what important. It's a little more camera that I really need, perhaps, but I hope to not need to buy another one for a long time. Now I that I've dished out all that money for a camera, I feel obligated to learn to use it to its full potential. We'll see how that goes.
Here's my Canons together.

Here's one of the first pictures I took, a close-up of WTF's keychain. My film camera would never have been able to take such a picture.

Another close-up, this one of a blanket of WTF's:

It has a 6x optical zoom, plus a 4x digital zoom. That will get us from here...

To here...

Here's some pictures I took of sunlight shining through my coat at WTF's place. None of these would have been possible with ol' filmy.

Some other miscellaneous pictures... The first was taken from WTF's apartment, and the rest from mine.
(I feel like I could have made these look better if I had more of a clue what I was doing.)

(Yes, I have a Shinto shrine right outside my window.)

(View from upstairs.)

Anyway, I'll definitely have more after Australia and New Zealand. And I actually still have a lot of film pictures to show you, some of which came out really nice. Maybe I should get a Flickr account...
