This was a special year, as it was the first time I was physically present at the awards ceremony. Which was great fun (unfortunate Silverberg comments excepted).

Best Short Story went to "Mono no Aware" by Ken Liu. Good.

Best Novelette went to "The Girl Thing Who Went Out For Sushi" by Pat Cadigan. Also excellent, and pleasantly surprising.

Best Novella went to The Emperor's Soul by Brandon Sanderson. Not unexpected. Fine.

Best Novel went to Redshirts by John Scalzi. My last place choice. I guess it wouldn't be the Hugos if that didn't happen in at least one category... I like Scalzi as a person (I enjoy his blog, for instance), but his fiction seems to rub me the wrong way.

Best Dramatic Presentation - Short Form went to Game of Thrones. Great choice; I'm very happy that Doctor Who didn't win this year, despite representing more than half of the nominees (though that may have diluted the chances of any single episode winning, I suppose).

Best Dramatic Presentation - Long Form went to The Avengers. Psh, whatever.
