I'm sorry, but I'm feeling a little self-congratulatory right now. I was listening to a song on the new Decemberist's album, "Eli the Barrow Boy," and I thought to myself, "Hey. I should learn me that on the geetar." And I nailed it in about ten minutes. I thought it sounded like it had a capo, and it did! And I figured out where it was stuck in no time! And I figured out the chords (which are actually pretty simple) and the little tricky fret maneuvers in there! I rock! I don't mean to brag, but three or four years ago I don't think I would have been able to do that. See, the middle school band mindset, in which playing by ear requires mystical powers beyond the grasp of mere mortals, is still with me to some extent... It still needs some practice, but it's all there in my head.
