Every once in a blue moon I get a sudden, intense desire to be back in an academic environment, just for a day or two or whatever Only I wish it could be an environment where learning is divorced from rigors like grades, 'cause after about two or three years I got to totally hate being in college and worrying about that sort of shit. But some days, as a college graduate and corporate drone, I think I could totally go for a no-strings-attached lecture on binary search trees or something.

I don't mind it that much, but by the time I finished my undergraduate I was pretty well hating it, too. That's part of why I'm taking this time off. The nice thing about a PhD program, though, is that you only have course work for a year or so, and then the rest of your time is spent on research (and maybe teaching).
