australia 2: flora and fauna

In the last entry I said there's no real reason to go Australia, but there is, actually, one reason to go, if you're into that sort of thing. And that is the unique wildlife. Here's some pictures.
When we drove up Mt. William, we saw some echidnas, which we were later told is rather rare. Seven-kun allowed me to get some really nice shots of them without getting close enough to scare them away.



Kangaroos are also all over the place, but they're also "crepuscular," which means you can only see them in the morning and in the evening. So we dutifully got up at 6am and went in search of kangaroos. They weren't hard to find.




The aborigines and the white settlers:

There was some really interesting plant life there, too. Here's one example.
