In the first period of sleep I got after finishing my dissertation last month, I had two dreams that I remembered and wrote down:

1. I have gone on a shooting rampage (which was not part of the dream; it was just my subconscious convincing me that I had, despite having no memory of it), and I have to find a way to accept that and take responsibility for it.

2. I get in line with a large group of young people (college undergraduate age) who are joining the army of a powerful witch, whose previous army was all killed. None of the young ones seem much concerned by this. The only reason I am signing up is because I am an orphan who believes the witch is my real mother.

Psychoanalyses welcome.

Dreams about shootings that the dreamer does are usually about bubbles of anger coming up. These bubbles often come up when we try to be better people or more mature. The fact that it was part of your history that you didn't recall might mean that the anger bubbles had nothing to do with exterior stimuli, but was just internal energy or emotion that needed to be cleared. I'm a believer that some of our dreams are about releasing emotion as energy that we'd rather not express in waking life.

The army one? Maybe it's about your change in status from student to employee/student. You're a worker drone now! Nobody gets out of that situation alive! But you also seem to have more of an affinity to the worker version of yourself, when compared to your fellow young people. There are all sorts of odd things now about Millennials in the workforce -- my generation believed you could work hard and get somewhere. Today's people entering the workforce don't have such optimism.

Make sense? Seem to touch on anything?
