None of these were terrible, and yet my favorite science fiction film of the year (Her) didn't make the list, so that's irksome.
5.The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Threatened by Catniss's popularity, the capital raises the stakes even higher.
It was good, I guess, but the first one is a hard act to follow.
4. Iron Man 3
Iron Man is back again, fighting terrorists and his past.
As far as summer blockbusters go, it was fun. Nice work with the psychological issues of the main character, and they even took pains to pass the Bechdel Test.
3. Frozen
A princess with ice magic struggles to control her power.
As far as earnest Disney films go, this is about as good as it gets. (I mean, it's no Emperor's New Groove, but it was fun.) I am really sick of hearing "Let it Go," though.
2. Pacific Rim
Giant monsters crawl out of the depths of the Pacific Ocean, and humanity must build giant robots to fight them.
So fun. Escapism at its best.
1. Gravity
When her space shuttle is destroyed by debris, an astronaut must struggle to survive and find a way home.
By far the most scientifically rigorous, emotionally powerful, and visually stunning of the nominees.
