I was doing some Wikipedia reading today...
I don't really understand why JFK is so idolized. I mean, that Bay of Pigs thing was super not cool. There seems to be some (obviously unlearned) lessons there for the current administration, in that one of their major blunders was assuming that the natives would welcome and aid the invasion force. Uhh, no.
And I had never even heard of the Philippine-American War before. That's some nasty stuff man.
Everybody suspects that the CIA is up to no good, but what have they actually done? Well, one of my favorites is Project MK Ultra. Can you believe there were actually people like Sidney Gottlieb and Ewan Cameron operating on US (and Canadian) soil? Not only operating, but funded by the government?
Then there's of course media manipulation, overthrowing democratically elected leaders of other countries because they didn't like them, and plotting to perform acts of terrorism and blame it on someone else in order to influence public opinion... Good times, good times.
God only knows what they're up to now that we'll only find out about decades after the fact (if ever). Scary mofos, man. But may I take a moment to suggest you read Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates?
And Eldridge Cleaver was certainly an, uhh, interesting character... How many people do you know who have been members of both the Black Panthers AND the Mormon Church, have run a car theft ring in Europe AND have run for the Republication nomination for a U.S. Senate seat? If life is a Bingo board, I think Cleaver reached Blackout.
I spend far too much of my life reading Wikipedia. It's like, the Book of Everything, man! I can review my chemistry on there, or learn about logic circuits or Proto-Indo-European religion... Very cool, very cool.
